About the Pascal Society

The Pascal Society is the annual giving society of the NFPA Education and Technology Foundation—a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization dedicated to meeting the workforce development needs of the U.S. fluid power industry.

Named after Blaise Pascal, the French mathematician, physicist, and inventor whose famous law describes fluid power’s force multiplier effect, the Pascal Society seeks to create a similar multiplier effect for the fluid power industry.

By combining the financial and volunteer contributions of many individuals into one concerted effort, The Pascal Society will develop the resources, tools, and people needed to tackle our difficult workforce development challenge.

Learn how the Pascal Society benefits those who have chosen a career path in the Fluid Power Industry.

Why reinvent the wheel?

Sun’s standard solutions are road tested, ready and expanding. With more than 700 ready-to-order solutions delivering 20 different control functions across multiple settings and flow rates, Sun can help you roll out your solutions faster by starting with ours. And because it’s from Sun, you can count on high reliability and low cost of ownership.

To expand our standard solutions, Sun has released nine new flow control rapid-advance-and-feed sandwich assemblies, rounding out an offering of ISO-03, -05, -07, and -08 sizes. This family of assemblies consists of a 2-way, 2-position solenoid directional control valve that allows full flow in the open position and diverts flow through a flow control valve in the closed position, allowing you to control the speed of your actuator. Assemblies use different flow control valves, ranging from a straight needle valve to adjustable pressure-compensated flow control valves.

There are many challenges to consider when designing a liquid dispensing system. Choosing the valve and components in the fluidic circuit to optimize the accuracy and repeatability (Cv), to achieve the lowest possible carryover, and to maximize the throughput. Time, pressure, and fluidic resistance factors all impact the system performance. We will discuss some new technology and products that can result in a best-in-class system. It will cover pressure-based dispensing, advantages of pneumatic pipetting, and the importance of valve control.

The full capabilities of the Sun Hydraulics XMD mobile drivers are at your fingertips with the new CANpoint XMD Configuration Software, available as a free download from our website.  Now the world’s smallest, most powerful driver can be configured quickly and easily over CAN bus using a computer, our CANpoint software and an XMD CAN-to-USB hardware interface cable.

The launch of this new software allows XMD-02 users to implement open-loop, closed-loop (PID) and hydraulic fan drive control using pre-programmed modes for our dual-output driver.

Flexible input options

The XMD driver accommodates multiple input types, and CANpoint helps you make the most of them. Options include voltage, current, PWM, frequency, resistive and digital.

Output settings

CANpoint provides a simplified output menu for most common solutions and end-use cases with PWM frequency, output mode and ramp settings. Advanced functionality options provide more control for experienced users, including output current regulation PID settings and robust fault detection that includes user-defined fault status modes.
